I have become a huge fan of Regency romances, and Catherine Tinley has written some of my favourites.  Like many others, I was swept up by the Bridgerton whirlwind during the first lockdown, so I was more than ready to read Catherine’s take on the period and soon hooked.  If you’d like to read a couple of my earlier reviews, you can follow these links: A Waltz with the Outspoken Governess and Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount (The first in this series).

I’m grateful to Rachel Gilbey of Rachel’s Random Resources for the blog tour invite and for providing my digital review copy in exchange for my honest review.  You can read my thoughts below.

Review

We previously met Isobel in the first book in this series, Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount, but we didn’t get a feel for Isobel’s story. Arriving in London at the behest of their Scottish guardian, Isobel and her three sisters are soon thrown into the whirlwind time of debutantes and the Ton. Of course, this is a mirror-image story, and we discovered a lot about the orphaned girls in the last book. Don’t worry if you’ve not read it; you’ll soon pick up the thread and fall in love with these characters.

Isobel is certainly the feisty one of the triplets, and her personality soon starts to lead her into trouble. Finding it impossible to endure Prince Claudio’s superior air, she is determined not to let him get under her skin. Of course, that proves harder in practice. Isobel has a smart mouth and a personality that leads her into trouble too easily. Despite all that, I was completely invested in her story and wanted to see her happy ever after.

Claudio is a visiting Prince from a German royal family. His father is a cousin to the Queen, and he is living as a house guest at her London home. He revels in the playboy lifestyle that his title affords him. Finding friends among the gambling and drinking fraternity, he is in his element. One thing that he is definitely not interested in is marriage.  He can easily find a willing and grateful maid to satisfy his desires.

I just loved the premise of this book. Despite knowing that Isobel and Claudio would fall for each other, it was good fun to follow their story. It also provided an excellent opportunity to learn what happened while Rose was back in Scotland. Once again, Catherine Tinley’s excellent, detailed research was unmistakable and totally intriguing. I hope she never tires of tales from the Ton.

The three sisters are identical in looks only, and I’m already looking forward to exploring Miss Anna’s time in London and learning who captures her attention.  I’m sure it will be as much fun as the previous books.
