Blog Tour – Finding Family at the Cornish Cove by Kim Nash @KimTheBookworm @rararesources @BoldwoodBooks #BlogTour #BookReview #boldwoodbloggers #FindingFamilyAtTheCornishCove

Kim Nash is a wonderful part of the blogging and publishing community.  Her online interviews were one of the highlights of lockdown and offered an opportunity to learn more about favourite authors and their writing process. The first book in this series, Hopeful Hearts at the Cornish Cove (link to my review), set the scene and introduced the core characters for this, the second book.

I’m grateful to Rachel Gilbey of Rachel’s Random Resources for the blog tour invite and support, and to Boldwood Books for providing my digital advance reading copy, which was gifted via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.  You can read my thoughts below.

Synopsis

Family is everything…

In the years since her death, Gemma has been running her late mother’s café with devotion, and when an opportunity comes to buy out her next-door neighbour and expand, she jumps at the chance.

She knows she will do her mother proud – keep her legacy going strong – but deep down she knows there’s still something missing. With her mum in her mind more than ever, and the knowledge that she may never start a family of her own, she can’t stop thinking about what life has in store for her.

But sometimes family are those you choose, or those who choose you! And with a growing community of supporters cheering Gemma on – including some new faces at her blossoming bistro – and maybe one in particular, will she really spend the rest of her life alone?

Review

It was lovely to return to Driftwood Bay and catch up with Gemma, her sister, Lucy, and the rest of the residents. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the first book as this can certainly be read as a standalone story, and you can always go back to read the first book.

Gemma featured quite well in the first book, but we certainly saw more of her sister, Lucy.  The two sisters accounted for the bed and breakfast business and the bakery and teashop. They had certainly cornered the lion’s share of the hospitality market.

I was drawn to Gemma’s character from the moment she appeared and felt that her story would be a powerful one.  Despite her own experiences, she was always supportive of her friends and family.  It seemed only natural that she would get her own story.  What a corker of a story it is, too!

Once again, this story brings mentions of both her sister and of Mere (Meredith), whose story was covered in the first book.  They are still a tight-knit bunch, and their friendship has brought them all closer.

I find real joy in reading about strong women and I was delighted to meet a new character, Occy – short for Octavia – another feisty female who is hurting and looking for a bit of understanding.  Occy’s moodiness reminded me of my daughter as she was once at war with the very air that she breathed. Kim has a steady hand when developing her characters and covers every aspect of their personalities to the end that they often feel like friends.

Kim creates wonderful, relatable characters who are challenged with the same aspects of life that face most of us.  The gentle way that she dealt with the spectre of fertility issues makes for a difficult but fulfilling read. Despite the complications brought about by former partners, the final conclusion brings hope and happiness to Driftwood Bay.

I’m already looking forward to returning to Driftwood Bay and meeting more new characters.
